How Do I Get Started?
written by Laura of Wishing Well Creations for SugarHill
Ready to give digital scrapbooking a try, but don’t know how to get started? Here’s a quick list of what you’ll need in order to start scrapping digitally:
- Software - Choose and install the software you want to work with. You will need image editing software that supports layers; two of the most popular (and affordable) options are Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE) and Corel Paintshop Pro (PSP), though there are many other choices at a broad range of price points.
- Photos - You will need digital copies of your photos in order to load them into your image editing software and create scrapbook pages. You can obtain digital photos by (a) using a digital camera, or (b) using a scanner to convert printed photos into digital images, or (c) having your local photo lab provide you with a photo CD when you have your photos developed/printed.
- Digital Scrapbooking Products - Finally, you will likely need digital scrapbook papers and elements in order to create digital scrapbook pages with your photos. There are numerous digital scrapbooking shops online that sell kits (coordinated papers/embellishments/alphabets), allowing you to download the files to your computer using an internet connection. There are also a number of sites online that offer sample products for free (such as misstiina.com). And of course, all of the products here at SugarHillco may be used for personal use too. Once you have downloaded a product to your computer, you can open the files using your image editing software and begin creating projects.
